This first thing I wanted to ask is will the Pope be typing in English or Italian? Will someone be translating into different languages, because Catholicism is not strictly a italian/American religion. This really surprises me actually I would have thought that he would oppose social media because it can be scandalous.

I never would have thought that the Pope would get a social media account. It’s interesting to see such a traditional business moving towards such a modern form of marketing. It’ll be interesting to see how social media will play a role in the church atmosphere/how it will be beneficial for the Pope.

See, I thought he had one already but I guess that was the official Vatican account. Could it be it was inspired by fake papal tweets http://www.catholicnews.com/data/stories/cns/1204725.htm?
That is another reason why I think celebrities flock to Twitter–to be able to tell their side rather than be the subject of so much gossip. Web 2.0 is all about how it works both ways, right?!?

The Pope himself says that social media is an important tool! He is even encouraging people to be using Facebook and twitter. I looked up the Vatican account and it is posting in English to answer Marisa’s question. There dose not seam to be any retweets and the account it tweeting from a rage of one to about ten tweets a day. Benedict has posted using this account but he is now considering getting his own. He would not be writing everyone but they did note that he would be approving everything before it is posted.
